Monday 20 March
Hey guys,
It's all get ever so slightly hectic for me (again) over the last few weeks, you would
not believe the amount of emails we are currently receiving and we are wokring our way
through them all as we speak so if you're waiting reply to review you sent, believe us,
we are reading through them all and we shall get back to you shortly - it's a never
ending thing, we just got to make sure the reviews are all good so as not to let our
standards down, which leads us nicely in to this columns twin subjects...
First up, the newspapers are full of the news (again) that St. Patrick is very disappointed
in us all for the violence and heavy drinking (or should that be puking) that took place
nationwide on St.Paddys Day. There were, according to the newspapers, over 700 people
arrested after a day on the booze.
Now this is a story that never stops, there are numerous ads out at present from the likes
of Diageo - Don't see a great night wasted, nearly every drink company - urging us all to
enjoy their product responsibly and ofcourse Meas..... but the question has got to be is
it all just a little too much, too late...
Now we as a site promote the pubs of Dublin, talk about hangovers so perhaps we should take
a little responsibly for highlighting the fun that can be had if you've used our site for
a good night out but there is no way we are going to take the site down. By entering this
site, you must verify you are over 18 and we'd like to think that you're a responsible
human being as well and would not binge drink...
...but ofcourse every once in a while doesn't everyone over-indulge a bit. I know myself
now that the older I get the less I am able for continuous nights out and heavy sessions
and it's usually a once a week thing - perhaps with a couple of pints during the week
and to be honest with you I'm starting to really favour keeping my head together on nights
out and usually leave and go home to bed if feeling slightly worse for wear or full of beer
and spirits. So that's my solution, to go home. What's yours?
And where all these kids getting their drinks from, everybody has seen them on corners with
booze well it's coming from somewhere, it hasn't just magically appeared. Someone is buying
or serving them the drink and that is where it has to be stopped and as a society I guess
we've got to stop glorifying binge drinking, in fact are we just glorifying it by mentioning
it so much.
There seems to be a lack of trust somewhere in all this, and it's all the mixed messages
are getting very hard to read into - just what is happening why society is drinking itself
into these states is the question, or is it? Are they, or is it just in these media obsessed
days that everything get pulled under the spotlight a lot more as more and more people
get out their soapboxes.
The truth of these matters is out there somewhere and may I offer the opinion that if we
were all a little nicer to each other and maybe a little less scared, it might work out
a little safer.
Which nicely leads into the fact that this Friday is ofcourse Good Friday or 'Goo' Friday
as you cannot buy a drink. You can drink but you can't buy it, lovely. Roll in Thursday
evening and the packed off licences and shops as everyone thinks they can drink a lot
more than usual cos it's banend. Maybe it's just our old fashioned rebel values bringing
all this out in us. Either way it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens
on Good Friday as happened on St. Paddys Day except this time there's no parade!!
I'll be keeping my eyes open....
Until next time, have a super Easter and if you can't drink responsibly then please
don't drink t all.. you're ruining it for the rest of us!
Fred.
