With acoustic guitar in hand, petite Co. Meath-born singer/songwriter Maria Butterly arrives on stage with such confidence and star quality that one is prepared for something special.
"Maria's voice is so extraordinary it can take you places you never expected to go". (Bernard Baur, Music Connection Magazine).
Maria commands attention wherever she goes. Her original musical style combines country/rock and folk, and with a raw-edged passion she lets loose. This wildly gifted Irish artist captivates and enthralls her concert audiences, and she can still a crowd of rowdies with her riveting on-stage performance and engagingly quick Irish wit! A self-taught musician she plays guitar, mandolin, piano, viola, and whistles.
Maria and her band have opened for Michele Shocked, The Proclaimers, Hot House Flowers, The Saw Doctors, Damien Rice The Fenians, Dolores Keane, and Stockton's Wing. She has played the House of Blues in Hollywood, The Troubadour, The Roxy, The Coach House and more. A recent appearance for Samson Technologies at the NAMM Show in Los Angeles paired her up with the great Stevie Wonder and her fans now include legendary bassist Stanley Clarke and The Moody Blues' co-founder, Ray Thomas.
Her 5 piece band rocks out with Tardu Yegin on saxophone, whistles, percussion and bodhran, David Williams on mandolin and guitar, Steve Pandis on bass and Perry Ostrin on drums.
In August 2003 Maria Butterly and her band won the New York International Film and Music Festival Best Irish Folk Band award!
