Description:
Music with Late Bar.
Review:
Live music and restaurant serving food 'til late. Whelans is one of Dublin's best loved music venues, famed for its atmosphere and quality, original live music. Whelans also caters for tour parties. The bar area hasn't changed much over the years and is a great spot for a few pints whether your going to a gig not. The gig area has two bars one at the back of the standing area and another upstairs with balcony space overlooking the floor below. Service is good and pints are relatively expensive.

Public Reviews:
- Was great when I was 18 but that was 4 years ago and they haven't changed the music since. Full of people who'd rather spend time looking like the cover of the NME than have a good time. You need to queue for the smoking area. Good for gigs but I'd rather go to a club that's fun and less up it's own a*se.

- A superb pub, smoking area is great, you can pop in most days of the week and catch a great band, bouncers friendly and drink reasonable compared to other nightclubs.

- Whelans at 25, Wexford Street has a great variety of gigs as well as a club. There is entertainment most weekend evenings at prices varying from 6 Euro upwards. Big name entertainers in the past include Maria Doyle Kennedy (ex Commitments) as well as whacky events such as the annual Air Guitar Champs!

- Having frequented here regularly in my Kevin St. D.I.T. days, I was amazed to find 10 years on that the place hasn't changed a bit! Even the DJ was playing my old student day favourites, along with other classics. Good mixed crowd too.

- Whelan's was, at it's peak in the mid to late 90's a bastion of cool. Best tunes in the city, Best crowd in the city. I have grown up and moved onto new types of music, however Whelan's remains deeply routed to the madchester era of pop and rightly so. The bar is lively and the club is wonderful. The perfect place to revisit your cantankerous teenage years. Although the entrance fee at the weekend is a bit much. incidentally a good gig spot too
