A great little pub situated more or less on the corner of O'Connell St
and Middle Abbey Street. The Oval is a real Dublin pub, seemingly small
from outside, this pub actually has three levels, albeit the second level
is basically a bar and a couple of stools from which you can look down on
the floor level. The third level a well laid out lounge area. The pints
are keenly priced and go down a treat. Service by the friendly barstaff
is grand. This is real conversation pub and all the better for it frequented
by both the young and the old. Recommended.
Grand wee traditional irish bar!loved the irish music being played, as an avid celtic fan!+met this sexy irish man called Mark!:-)
The oval was a nice enough pub but we were looking for a good irish stew and what we got was alright but the price was a bit on the high side to say the least and the service was average.
The Oval is the place to drop into for a couple after some shoppin. Lovely pint in a warm, cosy, traditional Irish pub.
This pub totally reeks of awesomeness, the guiness is as famous here as the marble counter my grandfather before me supped many a small one from, if you're round the area drop in for a sniffter or if you're feeling ravenous get the stew injection, it's good for what ales ye!
Even if you're depressed The Oval has an atmosphere to suit everyone - from the hardened drunken yob right down to the lone bar fly, bar staff are the friendliest you could possibly find in a city centre pub and provided you don't go knocking on their door looking for a night-cap at two in the morning, are very unlikely to spit in your pint.
The jacks are a bit scruffy but then again so are some of the customers, particularly the lads working on the Luas line outside, a definite full marks for this top boozer!
I can say that after many years of returning home to follow the rugby and occasional family visitation, I have never spent so many happy and word fueled hours as I have in this place of excellance. Declan the manager is capable of doing, and often does, the work of 4. Staff are brilliant. Hired this place for my 50th the other year and brought 50 with me. Everyone of them are converts. Don't miss the Irish Stew.
I think this place is excellent I usually go in here to impress people with my skilled pipe smoking, and my handle bar moustache is legendary in the area for its extraordinary capacity to soak up the excellent Guinness head on the excellent pints in here. When my belly rumbles I get some of their marvellous sandwiches and this will usually bed down my appetite until the salvation army hostel nearby opens. Over all I would say that even Oliver Cromwell would have thought long and hard before burning this pub had it been around at the time of his arrival. He would have had some friendly staff and some excellent pints before laying waste to our homeland.
I was introduced to the Oval by a close friend on a trip to Dublin and I must say it is worth the trip alone. The staff, atmosphere and the Irish stew are all outstanding. If you can find a pub that makes you feel more welcome then you need to let me know. If you do nothing else in Dublin visit the Oval.
The Oval is a grand little pub for a good pint at any time! The bar lady is great.
