The Confession Box is situated on Marlborough Street in Dublin in close proximity
to O'Connell Street. The first thing to notice when you enter is how small it is
and if there is any kind of crowd it may look intimidating at first. We dropped in
on a Thursday night and the clientele was mostly local. However, in saying this, once
the Trad Music session got started, the atmosphere was lively and friendly with everyone
singing along to the excellent musicians - even the barman got in on the act, constantly
revealing different Tin Whistles and the sort. The pints were excellently poured and great
value also. The service was brilliant as well. There was also an advertisement for Dublin
Coddle hiding in the back. We ended up having a great night in The Confession Box and
would have no hesitation in returning but if you're going out with a big group, be warned
space can be at a premium and it may not be everybody's cup of tea, we found it great.
I love this place. So small, staff (only 1 guy) efficient and very kind, good pints, cheap prices and good people (dubliners only when i was there). On my next trip to dublin i'll visit it again for sure. A must for everybody who wants a familiar atmosphere.
A bit wee for my liking but has all the character you could ask for in a pub.
We came to Ireland to find good Craic - and found it in the Confession Box before starting our Tour at the very first day of our visit. We dropped in just for a pint and a whiskey and got the amazing experience of guitars, a great singer (compliments!!!) and guests playing Tin Whistle, harmonica or bodhran. As we went out, they told us "everybody comes back" - and so we did on the very last day of our trip. We had two great evenings in the Confession Box and don't regret one hour. We didn't find Craic like this anywhere else in Ireland! Good Beer, great whiskey, fantastic Craic!
