Having read all the reviews submitted about Q-Bar (see below) we here at dublinpubscene.com
thought it about time we ventured in for ourselves to see what the fuss was all about, so
to speak. It was a Friday evening and we had been drinking elsewhere when we made the decision
to go, so we arrived outside about 7.30 expecting a horde of angry bouncers to refuse us
admission but finding none, we walked in to a most illuminated place, seriously this must
be the brightest lit pub in Dublin. There was a doorman sitting inside near the bar, but I
don't know if he checked us out or not. Anwyays, we got served by a delightful bar girl and
the pints were tasty if a little expensive. Looking around, the Q-Bar covers
a lot og ground with a downstairs 'lounge?' that is huge. So far, so good.
That is until, my friend asked the doorman where the toilets where and while he got
a response, it was very rude and he was also not impressed with the long, long walk to the
toilets. We soon seen the doorman in operation and well, let's just say it left as sour
taste in our mouth the way he was treating some of the people coming into the pub.
Apart from the toilets (being so far way) and the doorman, Q-Bar is quite good for pints
and that but......
We love that Qbar place, we wer in it every week of late 2006 drink is great the birds are great, no complaints at all, but we havent managed 2 make it in at all since the new yr not happy with that after all our loyalty n money spent in it last yr, still f*ckin deadly in there tho
I have been there many times and I really like the place. The music is great. The staff are lovely and helpful. The drinks are a little pricy but its worth it to be in a classy place like this
Wow I dont get the hole bouncer thing!! I love the bouncers in Qbar there cool!!! ha, ah I love Qbar well it has its nites sometimes d old crowd and then the young music is savage dey play everytin!!!! luvs it but there r better places to go!!!!!!
DONT go near the place if you're over 20!! I'm only 23 and i felt like i was at an under- 18's disco!! no wonder everyone thinks the Doormen are bad. i think it depends...we were let in without being asked for ID - probably because we actually didnt look like kids. but my friend had been refused earlier in the night because she had no ID and she looks her age (24) depends on the person i think. but yeah, it would be a good enough place only for the age group. never again personally!
The bouncers and bar staff were top class and friendly as f***! We had no problems getting in and we had no problems getting asked for I.D or where we came from!! They were just doin there job and in a professional and friendly manner!! Can't wait to go back!
Cocktails are nice, especially if you're not too fond of strong tasting alcohol. Prices are fairly reasonable for cocktails during the cocktail hours (5 for selected drinks), but otherwise is quite pricy. Not the liveliest place to visit on a night out as Redz and XXI seem to attract the crowds.
I went to Q Bar last night and had a brilliant time. I had no trouble getting in by the bouncers and the music was good. The drink tasted good too, if a little pricy
Just a story. Four of us (two girls, two guys) were on our way in and were refused by the bouncers. They didn't even ask for ID (we're all in our 20's btw, well dressed etc.) We went next door to Messrs Maguire and sat down for a pint. The girls tried again and got in. They got the manager and explained what happened. They phoned us to come in, and the manager chastised the humiliated bouncer in front of us. Funny night but won't go back.
I have visited the Q-Bar on many a night, and many a great night I have had, the bar staff are friendly and easy to talk to too, the food is great especially the steak. There is a great mixture of music throughout the night. The drink is not too expensive. I would definitely recommend the Q-Bar to anyone.
I had a gr8 nite!! didnt think it was that expensive!! the bar staff and the door men were really nice and friendly. would definitly go back. i do recomend it 10/10 x
This place is lovely to look at. The interior is classy. It's a younger peoples place with good music. Drink is a little on the expensive side but its a good nite out
After reading all the reviews about the bouncers, I was sure my friends and I weren't going to get in! But we had absolutely no trouble,in fact the bouncers were courteous and quite friendly. Love the decor and the 3-level layout, but prices are VERY HIGH!Music was mixed, and the guys weren't particularly hot:-( Overall a pretty decent place to head on a night out; both for those wanting to chill out and those who want to get their groove on!
We're very surprised to read bad comments about the bouncers of Q Bar, we found them to be some of the nicest we'd ever met, very friendly and a good laugh! Although its an expensive place to drink (where isn't in dublin?!) it has a great atmosphere, and plays great music. Had a great time here, and will definitely be going back.
I can't believe the scathing reviews of Qbar - okay so the drinks are expensive (as you will find anywhere in this city) but I have NEVER had a problem with the bouncers. So they ask for ID, get over it! And as for being selective, I've never been turned away, because I've never been loud, brazen and drunk going in. Even when I've been kitted out top to toe in DODGY 80s gear (GO to the 80s night there on Thursdays!) I haven't been refused entry, so frankly, I don't see what all the moaning is about, I mean if anyone was going to get knocked back that night it would have been me!! It's about how you conduct yourself and not being fussy about being asked for ID, whatever your age. I recommend Qbar, especially on a Thursday, to anyone up for a laugh, as opposed to posting scathing reviews about it... :-)
On the 2 times that I've been here,I've noticed that the bouncers are selective about who they let in,thankfully I've never had any problems, walked straight in, in fact got given a free drink once due to a promotion and had a fantastic night with some nutty locals! I'd go back definatly!
This place would be great for a night out if only the bouncers were not so selective about who they want to allow into the premises!!! In the few times I've been allowed in there, I've found it good but the pints are so expensive and don't really taste great. There are better trendy bars around than this one.
If it was not for the ignorance and pig headedness of the men who select who they want in and who they decide they don't want in that work on the door this would actually be a pretty good pub, worst doormen I have ever encountered anywhere ! Charges in after 10pm. Bar staff are efficient and fast (when you can get hold of them). Gets very busy, but with the dancefloor downstairs you don't really have any need to head back out into the cold. Had a great night and would go back.
A lively bar that is for young people but all ages are found here. VERY EXPENSIVE pints and i have to admit i didnt stay there long.
Well, being a tourist here, I have to say that I left the queue feeling as low as a person can get. I didn't realize that you have to be near perfect to get into this bar. Needless to say, for my own ego's sake, I will not queue here again. I didn't get in, and even if I did get past the doorman, I don't think I would give them 5 euro just to sit and drink.
The interior is very nice, and the music isn't bad, dancing area is very small though! One thing you have to consider before even going here is whether the bouncers will let you in!! It's amazing what authority a black leather jacket can give someone.
Q Bar is a large modern bar with a lively young crowd. Mixture of tourists and locals. Being ignored while waiting to be served p***** me off. No excuse for it so I left. Another big noisy bar in Dublin. Great. Still an improvement on the Harp. Just about.
As if life wasn't hard enough. I mean, you struggle and fight the urges to kill your work colleagues and you think to yourself "I know what'll numb the pain, a pint of beer" - so you go to any bar, let's say the Q bar beside the Liffey. It's a bar, it's bound to serve beer and present me with a place to go so I can relax and, you know, chill out. So in you go, after being interrogated by some guy in a leather jacket and a headset. This is the sort of place where the beer is not great, so stick to bottles if you have anything you want to do the next day. You better load up on cash too, 'cos it's expensive here.
I agree with the other reviews,I have been in this bar only a handful of times and there is one reason for this. The bouncers,By far the rudest and most obnoxious doormen in Dublin,Giving no reason at 9 O'clock why a well dressed, presentable couple cannot be allowed entrance, It is not like its free in and everyone wants to go there,Nice inside(if your one of the select few to actually see it)and a nice lively place, advice to the management, get new doormen.
I agree with everything said about the bouncers. They work both Messers and Q on a sunday night and it is beyond me why they refused me entry to Q and then let me into Messrs. Pure ignorance
I have never been able to get into the Q-Bar even though people have walked straight by me and right in and one night I get the courage to ask why this happens I'm told by what appears to be the like the gates keeper of heaven that "we don't give reasons"! Oh well Redz across the way is much better anyway! or so I think.
It is true that the doors of Q Bar are like the gates of heaven!!! The bouncers seem to be enjoying their power trip a little too much and are overlooking the very angry people that don't like Q Bar because of their pig-ignorance. I know I always turn back to have a better time at Redz when I as far as see the Q Bar bouncers.
Been to this bar so many times and I love it, everyone is right about the doorman they are very rude and very selective, I am 26 and they still insist on asking me for ID, I've learnt to joke with them and they're cool then. Bar staff are cool, very friendly, bit expensive for drinks but that doesn't bother me as I always have a good night there.
The music is usually quite good and the prices aren't too outrageous. The door staff tend to be a little rude but over all a nice clean night club.
If you want to sip expnsively poor quality beer while watching traffic flow snarl-ups on the quays then position yourself here. This is a mere glorified goldfish bowl and if you wish to part with great wads of hard-earned cash then there are ten's of other establishments within a 100 meter radius that are much better. You would have a better time in the phone box across the road. Cheap Hollywood trash!!
I love Q bar. I really really miss it over here. Pints are atrociously expensive everywhere in Dublin. Q bar is not an exception. I think the music is fantastic and the dance floor is great. Go to Q bar! Do.
Q Bar is a disco bar plain and simple. Nicely laid out and plenty of eye candy. One of the better places for those looking for a late night disco in the area. Young crowd, drink expensive. Didn't have any problems getting in.
Great place to go, no problems with doormen. Had a fantastic night, got one lad so drunk for the first time. A good night had by all.
On the 2 times that I've been here,I've noticed that the bouncers are selective about who they let in,thankfully I've never had any problems, walked straight in, in fact got given a free drink once due to a promotion and had a fantastic night with some nutty locals! I'd go back definatly!
The Q bar was fantastic, the drinks were slightly expensive but well worth it for the atmosphere you got... Everything from the doorman to the toilet attendants were gr8... This was a amazing night out.. Highly recommended *****
I am really surprised at the comments on Q Bar - I think it's great! The atmosphere is the best, the dancefloor funky and the music top notch. The DJs always play requests, the bar staff are friendly and I have never been refused entry. 5*
