Life is situated on Abbey Street in the Irish Life Mall and there is no
better place in which to have a couple of pints on a Saturday afternoon
withs some friends as the atmosphere is so laid back you'll want to lie down.
The barstaff are friendly and because it does not be too packed service is
good. Seats are also easy to come by. The pints are a tad expensive but they
taste great. It has both an upstairs and downstairs area and while I have not
been in Life at night I can imagine it to be great.
Two things did catch my eye - the fishtank behind (in?) the bar where the spirits
are and the giant picture of a fish on the right wall as you enter. All in all
a good place for a few pints anytime of the week and with it's late license - what
more could you ask for?
Jammed on a Friday night, empty on a Saturday. The main reason it's empty is that it's slightly off the beaten track. Very chilled out decor, and pretty good music (not just chart sounds). Expensive pints, but where isn't in Dublin now? It's sad that a roomy, friendly well decorated pub with a late licence is just so goddamn empty most of the time.
This is a bad bar. Badly designed, bad service, bad prices, bad music, bad decor. Whoever designed this bar obviously never set foot in one, dumping a rectangle bar in the centre of a misshapen and badly laid out ground floor. On the second floor the situation is even worse, with a slapdash layout seemingly designed to confuse, the state of affairs not helped by a desire to save cash by using a combination of 15 watt bulbs and tiny candles to light the place. The dcor is garish - the effect being sough was stylish super-pub, the result ends up being more garish 70s disco-club. With expensive prices and some of the grumpiest service this side of the Urals, one wonders how this establishment continues to do any business. So are there any positives? Well the bar food is very tasty and apart from the after-work drinking hours, it is normally a dead cert to get a seat. Either must do better or must close down, there are far superior places to go drinking.
