Dice Bar is situated on Queen Street and although relatively small inside
it has an electric atmosphere helped on by the ecletic music played by
a live DJ. The bar area itself is dark and friendly. The barstaff are very
friendly and the pints are very good. A word on the pints - don't be expecting
your run-of-the-mill pints in here, they don't serve any of them (except Guinness).
All the tap beers are from the dublinbrewingcompany and include D'Arcys Stout,
Becketts Lager, a red lager and a cider (I forget their names).
Even though it can get a little crowded this is great pub to go with a couple
of mates to savour it's unique atmosphere.
Small claustrophobic yet atmospherice. Bordering on the dingy but the crowd and atmoshpere somehow seem to compensate for this. Crowd is cool but not in yer face standoffish or up themselves a la Lillies crew.
Have a lot of homebrews which to be honest can be hit or miss but they also serve bottled reliables for those adverse to experimenting. In-house DJ playing everything from Human League to Fisherspooner ,Marvin Gaye to Kruger Dorfmeister. It can be overly packed but great fun, not for the feint of heart or the nervous disposition. Tip: Wear a T-Shirt - the ceilings are low and it can get extremely HOT!!
The Dice Bar is not the sort of place you want to spend every evening in: the lighting is red, the paint work is black, it's very dark. But they play the best music in town, and they pour excellent beers from a local microbrewery. Besides the Dice Bar has a wonderfully woeful location: on the far side of Smithfield, on a street with little or no passing trade, although it's packed every night.
This was a great little find. Although small it never feels cramped. The music was good and the beers flowed freely. The bar had a kind of New York vibe to it, but not in a gaudy "theme bar" way. Even though it's a little out of the way, the Luas makes it more accesible. I'll be returning, that's for sure.
