Davey Byrnes is located on Duke Street just off Grafton Street. It's a long narrow pub with very relaxed atmosphere mainly populated by well-dressed thirty somethings out for a drink in stylish surroundings. More of a chatting pub then a party pub, it's a good pub to sit back and take it easy. Seats are scarce inside but there is a small seating area outside, if your mad enough to brave the Irish weather as some have heaters you could sit there smoking and drinking all night to your hearts content.
Not a bad pub to meet friends for a chat. Can be lively at weekends in the summer. If it's busy it can be difficult to get comfortable. Also gets a bit too smokey for my liking. Still, it's a good pub for meeting friends and having a chat.
It's a cool trendy pub in the centre of town! well worth the visit for the finest pint of Budweiser in town!
I was in Dublin in August 2004, in the Grafton Street area looking for a different pub to try and I just happened on Davy Byrnes. I was instantly impressed, particularly with the decor and the atmosphere. At first it all looked very new but on closer inspection you could sense something of an art deco and 1950s feel to the place. It was light and airy and the customers appeared to be mainly tourists like myself. The staff were friendly and the Guinness was good. I would certainly go back there.
This was for me a let down as it appears to have recently been renovated and lost that original Dublin pub feel. I tried the Smithwicks ale, which was not to bad, but I did feel that you could find this pub in most major cities around Europe. Interesting pictures hanging on the walls but that's about it. Four Euros thirty a pint. One for the shirt and early evening brigade.
