The Sazerac is New Orleans favourite cocktail and what's good enough
for New Orleans is most definitely good enough for us. It was 'invented'
in The Sazerac Bar (1859) by John Schiller who originally mixed the drink
using Sazerac-de-Forge et Fils cognac and New Orleans' own Peychaud's bitters, delivered straight. It was then brought to the Antoine Peychaud apothecary three blocks away.
It is also thought to be America's first cocktail and over the years the mixture has
changed mainly due to laws and sensibility and some previous versions of the drink
induced insanity.
If you can find a bar that can make them correctly, they are a perfect drink
on any night out but be warned if not made to perfection - they can be nasty
If your bar doesn't serve it, here's the ingredients
below, tell them, if you're nice they may make it
for you or you can make it yourself at home.
Whiskey
A Touch of Pernod
Shaken Rye
Sugar and Bitters
Pour into a chilled glass.
