Decadence (Press Release) - July 2004
Defining Decadence is like trying to bottle steam possible but not an easy endeavour. This is a group of people deriving from many diverse musical backgrounds who merged at the right time to make the music that defines their unique sound. Decadence took its first steps towards the music world in 1995 as a group of DJ's and producers that converged to create an energetic after party atmosphere.
Founding members Dave Mooney and Mark McGrath initially concentrated on Dublin's emerging dance scene, with a residency at the 13th Floor and appearing in underground venues such as the Da Club, The Funnel, Temple Bar Music Centre and The Red Box - the testing grounds for their paticular brand of self produced music.
Interest in the duo escalated leading to bookings for defining events such as Homelands, Creamfields, The Kitchen, support for Primal Scream's Point Depot gig and a six-month stint at the GPO Galway. With their style and following firmly established, they felt inclined to delve into a more eclectic sound through the introduction of live sets.
Enlisting the talents of counterparts Joe Donegan (guitar); Anthony Hoey (singer/songwriter); Mr Poetic (MC); Morgan (who took over from Dave Redsetta as DJ); Ciara Byrne (drums) and Allen Doyle (lyrcist) - their sound naturally evolved with this merging of experienced minds into what Decadence is today. The band were signed to Wet Clay Records and expanded their horizons with the release their first EP, 'Greed' featuring Steve Wall (The Walls), and the single 'Time & Money' earlier this year.
